Wooster Busts Arrows For Outright OCC Crown
The Wooster Generals clinched the outright OCC championship and a playoff spot defeating Ashland 37-16.
The Generals (7-3) struck first midway through the first quarter with a Drew Raider field goal for a 3-0 lead with 4:45 left in the opening quarter. The Arrows (4-6) responded immediately as Mitch Heilman found Mason Kanz for a 73-yard touchdown on a screen pass giving them a 7-3 lead after one.
Wooster then responded midway through the second as Owen Roach found Steele Morgan for a 12-yard touchdown pass to give them the lead back at 9-7 at the break.
The Arrow defense then stepped up big midway through the third as Roach committed an intentional grounding penalty in his own endzone for a safety tying the game at 9 apiece.
The General defense then got a stop and Roach responded with a 91-yard touchdown pass to Ezra Mckee on 3rd and 17 to give Wooster the lead back at 16-9.
They then extended the lead on their next possession as Roach ran in from 23-yards away making it 23- 9 after three quarters.
Both teams then exchanged scores as Roach ran in his second of the game, this time from five-yards away and Heilman answered with a touchdown run himself from 15-yards out making it 30-16. The Generals then finished the scoring with 1:13 remaining in the game as Jimmy Lyons ran in from 40-yards away making it 37-16.
Wooster clinches the outright OCC Championship and will be the #8 seed in the Division 2, Region 6 playoffs and will travel to top-seeded Avon for week 11.
