Whippets Finish MOAC 6-0, Crush Vikings 45-21
By Storm Bluntschly & Brian Skowronski
Shelby defended the MOAC title by taking care of River Valley in their regular season finale, crushing the Vikings 45-21 to remain undefeated at 6-0.
The Whippets got on the board early with Marshall Shepherd tossing a 21-yard strike to Connor Henkel before rushing in a 15 yard TD and connecting on a 31-yard field goal to make it 17-0 at the end of the first quarter. Shelby grew their advantage to 24-0 with Owen Fisher plunging in from a yard out on the first play of the second quarter but Cayden Shidone answered with a rushing TD of his own on River Valley's ensuing drive.
Back to back TD tosses by Shepherd to Carson Ingram (26 yards) and Blaine Bowman (41 yards) in the second would blow the game wide open, starting the second half with a running clock with the Whippets on top 38-7. Fisher would add another rushing score in the second half as Shelby racked up 347 total yards to the Vikings 148, wrapping up at least a share of the conference crown.
