Minutemen Survive Suspenseful Finish With West Holmes
A dramatic finish on homecoming night at Lexington ended with a 34-33 Minutemen victory over West Holmes as the Knights dropped their second straight conference game on the road.
In the closing minutes of the contest, senior RB Cade Stover ripped-off a 49-yard TD run to give Lexington a 1-point edge but had to stop West Holmes on their final possession to secure the win. The Knights offense, led by senior QB Bridger Cline who threw for 331 yards and 3 scores, would move the ball into field goal range with a chance to spoil the Minutemen comeback but their game-winning kick sailed wide left to end the game.
Lexington senior QB Jacob Depperschmidt had a career night with 240 yards and 3 TD’s through the air, 2 of them to fellow senior WR Josh Aiello. Stover and backfield mate Kayden Berry combined for 370 rushing yards and 4 scores on the ground to keep the Minutemen in the OCC title race with their second straight upset win.
Lexington (3-4) will next travel to Ashland (5-2) to face the Arrows while West Holmes (5-2) will try to end a 2-game skid at home against West Branch (6-1).
