Wooster Holds On For 51-49 Win At Mansfield
Wooster survived a late charge by Mansfield Senior to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0, knocking off the Tygers at Pete Henry Gymnasium 51-49 in OCC play.
The Generals led wire to wire, taking a 15-6 first quarter edge by holding the Tygers without a field goal in the frame. Senior High then outscored Wooster 15-12 in the second to trim the halftime deficit to 27-21.
Led by Roger Merrell's game-high 19 points, the Tygers would cut the Generals advantage down to 37-34 heading into the fourth and would find themselves with the ball trailing by two in the final seconds. Merrell would lose the handle for what would have been a game-winning shot just before the horn as Wooster survives with a hard-fought win on the road.
Micah McKee paced the Generals scoring attack with 17 points while Steele Morgan added 10 with 5 rebounds and both Reece Mitchell and Ezra McKee chipped-in with nine each. Along with Merrell, Cam Todd was the only other Mansfield player in double-figure scoring with 10, also grabbing a game-high 7 rebounds.
