Arrows Spear Tygers 56-42

OCC rivals trending in opposite directions met at Pete Henry Gymnasium where Ashland continued their hot streak with a 56-42 win over the reeling Mansfield Senior Tygers.

The game started with Senior High taking a slim 12-10 first quarter lead before the Arrows began to clamp down defensively. Ashland would hold the Tygers to just four points in the second period, allowing them to gain the lead at 25-16 by the break.

An efficient shooting performance by senior guard Mitchell Heilman helped the Arrows put some space into themselves and Mansfield in the third, finishing the night 7-9 from the floor with a game-high 22 points as Ashland took a commanding 40-24 edge into the fourth. A 7-0 run to start the final frame would seal up the Arrows fourth win in five tries, sending Senior High to their third straight defeat.

Joining Heilman in double-figures was Eli White with 14, who made 7 of FG attempts and collecting 10 rebounds, along with Luke Denbow who added 11 points. The Tygers were led by Roger Merrel III with 12 pts on 5-17 shooting, while Trevin Hines contributed with nine, and Maurice Ware had five.

The win puts Ashland at 5-8, 4-3 in OCC play while Mansfield falls to 5-7, 3-4 with losses in five of their last six outings.
