Wooster Buries Shelby 79-52 To Stay Unbeaten
WOOSTER -- Wooster buried previously unbeaten Shelby (4-1) 79-52 behind a suffocating second-half defense that propelled them to 4-0 on the season.
Both teams got out of the gate fast as Brazure Roberts scored six of Shelby's seventeen first-quarter points, including an and-one to gain some huge momentum for the Whippets. The pace ramped up in the second quarter as Shelby’s stud TJ Pugh began to carry the load, notching 11 points in the first half. On the other end, David Nolen, who dropped a game-high 18 points, continued to get easy layups at the rim to help Wooster carry a 32-28 edge into the half.
Momentum began to swing towards the Generals as the second half began behind a few easy looks at the hoop from Drew Dossi and Micah Mckee. Mckee went on a 6-0 run himself to spark Wooster early in the third quarter before Dossi added one of his own to push the lead out to 50-36 through three periods.
Shelby's shooting woes would continue in the 4th quarter as Cody Lantz struggled from the field all night. Junior Forward Brayden Hamilton would knock down a pair of Generals three’s while forward Tyler Petteroni would connect on a triple of his own to bury the Whippets down the stretch.
