Shelby Crushes Norwalk 64-44,
Clinch 1st District Title Since 1999
ASHLAND -- For the first time since 1999 the Shelby Whippets are headed to Regionals as Division II Ashland District champions with a wire to wire 64-44 victory over Norwalk.
Top-seeded Shelby (20-3) never trailed, building a 21-12 lead through one-quarter of action, and never looked back. The Whippets lead would swell to 38-18 by the half with smothering defense creating 10 Truckers (17-9) turnovers that turned into multiple Shelby buckets.
Norwalk's deficit would grow to 56-33 by the end of the third and they would never challenge in the fourth to make things interesting. Whippets senior wing Cody Lantz dropped 16 points and played great defense to earn Player of the Game honors as he helped advance his squad to the Elida Regionals to face state #2 Lima Shawnee.
