Week 11 Skiles Field
#5 Edison vs #4 Shelby
Explosive Plays Push Shelby Past Edison
Shelby protected their house in Week 11 with a 31-21 win over #5 Edison, making a number of explosive plays to advance into the Region 14 Semifinals.
Trailing 6-0 midway through the first quarter, Whipper junior RB Owen Fisher ripped off an 86-yard TD run to give 4th-seeded Shelby a 1-point lead. Both teams would find the end zone again before the half, evening the score at 14-apiece heading into the break.
Shelby again struck on a big touchdown play to tie the Chargers midway into the third quarter on a 31-yard TD toss from McGwire Albert to Blaine Bowman after Edison had regained the advantage with a Joe Stoll 2-yard TD run.
After an 87-yard Fisher score was wiped out by a penalty, Bowman caught a 92-yarder on the very next play to give the Whippets a 28-21 advantage early in the fourth. Shelby would tack on a field goal and hold the Edison offense in check the rest of the way to close out a 10-point victory.
#4 Shelby moves on to face #8 Clyde in Week 12.
