Whippets Bounce Rossford 32-13 In 2nd Rd
SHELBY -- Shelby shook off a slow start in their second round playoff matchup against Rossford with a strong second half to bounce the Bulldogs 32-13 at W.W. Skiles Field.
Coming off a 1st round bye, the sluggish Whippets (7-0) would find themselves trailing 10-7 after the first quarter before running off 25 of last next 28 points. Owen Fisher put #2 Shelby in front with a second quarter TD run from 3-yards out, and the lead would remain 13-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
Blaine Bowman caught a 4-yard TD to push the Whippets lead to 19-10 early in the fourth, but Rossford would add a field goal on their ensuing possession to make it a one-score game. Caleb Baker then provided the home team with a huge fumble recovery in the end zone to give Shelby some breathing room before Fisher iced the win on his second trip to the end zone in the closing minutes.
The Whippets will now advance #10 Firelands (7-1) in the Regional Quarterfinals at home next week.
