Blazing Start Fuels Tygers Victory
Over Ontario For Sectional Title
MANSFIELD -- For the first time in 11 years, the Mansfield Senior girls basketball squad can say they're sectional champions after riding a 20-1 run to knock off Ontario at Pete Henry Gym.
The 7th-seeded Tygers full-court pressure stunted the #9 Lady Warriors offense, who were held without a field goal during the first quarter of play. Senior High led 15-1 heading into the second where Ontario enjoyed their best stretch with a 12-7 run to trim the deficit down to 22-13 at the half.
Warriors senior guard Carleigh Pearson remained scoreless until midway through the third quarter where she began to find her game to finish with a game-best 13 pts, but Ontario would never challenge for the lead. Our Mechanics Bank Player of the Game, Tygers freshman Kiersten Bradley, would also drop 13 pts on 5-9 shooting and helped her squad stay in front at 32-20 entering the fourth quarter where Mansfield Senior closed out the win.
