Arrows Upend Truckers For Regional Semi Spot
ASHLAND -- It took nearly five hours to complete the task, but #2 Ashland would eventually outlast #7 Norwalk on their home turf with a 21-7 victory at Community Stadium to advance in the Division III Region 10 playoffs to the semifinals.
The Arrows (7-1) took an early 7-0 lead after the Truckers (4-4) muffed the opening kick and Declan Rohr cashed in on the short field with a 2-yard TD run. A more than 2-hour lightning delay would then pass through the area before both teams took the field again after 9:30 pm.
The wet conditions would lead to a Norwalk fumble on the first possession back after the delay, scooped up by Kadin Schmitz who returned it back for an Ashland TD and a 14-0 edge. The Truckers would cut the deficit in half on their opening drive of the second quarter when Garrett Chapin connected with Oliver Maloney for a 10-yard TD, but that's the only points they would produce on the night despite outgaining the Arrows 289-244 in total offense.
The biggest play of the night came late in the third when the Bo Lacey Player of the Game, Declar Rohr found Landon McFrederick for an 83-yard TD to extend their lead to 21-7 and the Ashland defense took care of the rest. The Arrows will now advance to face #6 Holy Name in the Regional Semifinals.
