Big Inning Costs Mohawk At Upper Sandusky
UPPER SANDUSKY -- Upper Sandusky exploded for a six-run fifth inning to score a come-from-behind 9-7 win over Mohawk.
The outcome was huge for the Lady Warriors (17-6, 12-3), who could have clinched a Northern 10 Conference title with a win, and appeared well on their way to accomplishing that goal early in the game. Mohawk dropped a run on the board in their offensive half of the first for the lead before RBI hits by Clouse and Harper extended their edge to 3-0 in the third.
A 2-run dinger by Clary would pull the Lady Rams (15-10, 12-4) within a run heading into the fourth where the teams would trade runs to make it 4-3. Then in the fifth, Harper and Young would each smack bombs for the Warriors to create some space on the scoreboard at 7-3, but Upper would more than answer the bell from the dish in the bottom of the inning.
Kniley and Swavel would each drive in runs with singles, setting up a go-ahead 2-run single by Kurtz to give the Rams their 9-7 cushion. Gier would close the door from the circle with spotless innings in the sixth and seventh to close out an Upper Sandusky victory, ending Mohawk’s shot at the conference crown.
