
Mansfield Holds Off St. Peter's 29-27
A low-scoring defensive battle at Pete Henry Gymnasium ended with Mansfield Senior on top of cross-city foe St. Peter's 29-27 with Akira Johnson delivering the game-winning shot in the final minute.
The first quarter provided much of the scoring action as the Lady Tygers built a 10-7 cushion with both Skyy Montgomery and Briana Perry notching four points each. Senior High then took a 19-11 advantage into the break, holding the Lady Spartans to just one second quarter field goal.
St. Peter's would begin to chip away at their deficit in the third, outscoring Mansfield 7-5 in the frame then came all the way back to even the count at 27-27 with 3:35 remaining in the fourth on an And-1 bucket from senior Sophie Tridico. Only two points would be scored the remainder of the contest, coming on a fast break layup from Johnson to earn a Lady Tygers victory.
Dakiyah White led Mansfield Senior in scoring with eight points, followed by Perry and Montgomery with seven each and five from Johnson. Kiyah Wentz put up a game-high nine points for St. Peter's with Tridico adding eight and both Sydney Cavanaugh and Dani Powell chipping in with three apiece.
