Shepherd's Go Off For Shelby In 8-2 Win At Galion
GALION -- A stellar outing by Shelby ace Marshall Shepherd on a cold evening at Heise Park helped the Whippets knock off Galion 8-2 for their 8th straight win.
It was a big game for the Tigers (8-5) who entered the game tied with Shelby (11-2) in the MOAC standings and they would pounce on the scoreboard first via a Troy Manring RBI double. The Whippets would then counter the following inning with a pair of runs to make it 2-1 midway through the second.
Both offenses would strand multiple base runners over the next three frames before a big sixth blew open the game for Shelby, who would bat through the order scoring 5 runs. The teams traded runs in the 7th to round out the scoring, with the Shepherd duo of Marshall and Luke finishing 4-8 with 4 RBI and 2 doubles.
Marshall would earn MVP honors for his day at the plate combined with 6 innings on the hill where he gave up 1 run on 4 hits with 8 K's.
