The "Battle of Mansfield" saw both matchups go in favor of Mansfield Senior this season who bested their cross-city rivals Madison 53-38 for the series sweep at Pete Henry Gym.

Coach Tim Mergel left before the opening tip for the birth of his child and the Rams played inspired to start the contest, taking a 16-15 edge heading into the second quarter on the strength of a 9-0 scoring run. The Tygers defense dictated the next two sessions, however, holding Madison to just four points in both the second and third periods.

A deep and balanced Senior High offensive attack that saw nine players get in the scoring column would put them in front 24-20 at the half, extending their lead to 37-24 entering the final eight minutes of action. A 16-14 fourth quarter scoring advantage would help the Tygers put away another rivalry win in blowout fashion.

Shad Creamer led all scorers with a dozen points on 3-7 shooting for Mansfield, while Davin Brown added 9 pts, Maurice Ware put up 9 pts with 11 rebs and Roger Merrell III put up 7 pts.

The Rams received 10 pts & 6 rebs from Isaac Brooks, 10 pts & 3 rebs by Tyler Tackett and 5 pts or less from six other players.

​

The Tygers improve to 8-11 on the season, sending Madison to 8-13 overall.
