TOLEDO — Chesney Davis and her Madison teammates left nothing to chance.

Davis scored two goals and All-American Taylor Huff added a pair of her own as the Rams rolled to a resounding 4-0 win over Toledo Central Catholic in the Division II regional semifinals Tuesday at TCC’s Gallagher Stadium.

Madison (18-0-3) will play at St. Marys Memorial at noon Saturday for the regional title and a berth in the state semifinals. St. Marys upset Mentor Lake Catholic 3-2 in overtime in Tuesday’s other Region 6 semifinal match.

The University of Tennessee-bound Huff scored the only goal the Rams would need in the 10th minute when she split a pair of defenders and rocketed a left-footed shot past Fighting Irish goalkeeper Evie Wesley.

Davis was credited with her first goal of the match in the 30th minute when her crossing pass was knocked into the goal by a TCC defender who was trying to clear the ball for a 2-0 Madison lead. She iced it 10 minutes into the second half when she worked past two defenders and sent a right-footed shot past Wesley for a 3-0 advantage with 29:14 remaining.

“It felt great. I just stayed composed and finished it,” Davis said. “I had the ball and just decided to go to the goal myself. It’s always good to step up every now and then.

“Sometimes it’s what you have to do, especially if we want to get to the state championship.”

Huff finished it off when she scored on a direct kick with 2:12 remaining after being fouled from behind moments earlier.

The Rams dominated possession all evening. Madison had 16 shots on goal and nine corner kicks compared to just two shots (and no corners) for the Irish.

“We have to play every game like it’s our last game,” Davis said. “Every senior has that mindset and I’m so glad that we’re all sticking together and playing our hardest. I’m very proud of my team."
