Flames Put Out In District Final
Fall To Liberty Benton 2-0
The Mansfield Christian Flames got put out in the rain at the Division III District Championship match in Tiffin, 2-0 by state-ranked Liberty Benton.
Playing in the programs third District final, the Lady Flames had few opportunities in the opening half but only spotted the top-seeded Eagles a 1-0 advantage at the break off a Kylie Recker goal midway through the session. It took just 28 seconds for Liberty Benton to add on their lead to start the second half, though, with Maya Rickle pushing a shot past Mary Golias.
The Eagles dominated possession throughout most of the match, allowing only a handful of offensive chances to Mansfield Christian. Solid defensive pressure and goaltending by both Golias and Chloe Reel kept the Lady Flames within striking distance, but could never beat goalie Sophie Ashmeyer on their limited opportunities.
Mansfield Christian finishes the season at 11-7-1 and will say goodbye to five seniors.
#11 Liberty Benton (17-1-1) moves on to face Eastwood in the Regional Semifinals at Perrysburg.
