Benvie's 46 Paces Granville Christian Past Mt. Gilead 66-61
MOUNT GILEAD --- Joseph Benvie put the Granville Christian Lions on his back scoring 46 points to defeat the Mount Gilead Indians 66-61.
The Indians (7-13) jumped out to an early 6 point lead before the Lions (6-10) finished the quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 19-13 lead into the second.
Granville then rode the back of Benvie, who helped lead a 44% first half shooting performance and a 14 point lead at the break 36-22.
Mount Gilead then found its shooting touch in the second half outscoring the Lions 22-8 to tie the game at 44 with eight minutes left.
They then built a 6 point lead with five minutes left, but Benvie again went into another gear and brought the Lions back with a 22-11 run to finish the game.
Benvie led all scorers with the 46 points, his second highest scoring output this season behind a 51-point night, while Brendon Austin also scored in double figures with 12 points.
The Indians were led by Darren Mounts' 16 points while Matthew Bland followed with 13 points. Elijah Chafin and Jackson Huffer also scored in double figures with 10 points each.
