Fisher Makes History In Whippets Blowout Win
SHELBY -- Owen Fisher has been rewriting the Shelby record books all season and cemented his place as an all-time Whippets great with a monster performance to help down Firelands 49-26 in the Division IV Region 14 Quarterfinals at W.W. Skiles Field.
Shelby (8-0) saw Fisher become the program's all-time leading rusher with a fittingly special performance, ripping off 281 yards and 4 touchdowns on 25 carries to pass Shorty Brooks on the Whippets career rushing list with over 4,340 total yards. The stud senior even pulled down an interception, as did teammate Marek Albert who raced back the other way for a 40-yard Shelby score just before the half as the Whippets built a 42-10 advantage by the break.
Junior QB Marshall Shepherd was nearly flawless, completing 11 of 15 passes for 234 yards and 2 Shelby TD's, connecting with Blaine Bowman seven times for 108 yards and a score.
The victory now sets up a Regional Semifinal rematch with defending state champion #11 Clyde, who took a thrilling 28-21 win at undefeated #3 Huron to punch their ticket to the next round.
