Cubs Gritty Playoff Journey
Leads To Championship Showdown
To say the Lucas postseason run into the Division 7 State Championship game has been adventurous would be an understatement.
The Cubs punched their ticket to the state final with a game-winning TD pass on 4th & Goal the week after clinching a Regional title with a fumble on the 1-yard-line that could have never happened without a game-ending 2-point conversion pass breakup in overtime to start their playoff journey.
Making their courageous quest even more surreal is the equally heart-pounding success of Richland County neighbor Mansfield Senior, who will play for a Division III Championship after securing a spot in Canton with back-to-back game-ending touchdowns in overtime.
What could really put the cherry on top of an incredible season, though, would be a first-time state qualifier in Lucas knocking off the most storied small-school program in Ohio football history, Maria Stein Marion Local. The top-ranked Flyers (12-2) are enjoying their 14th trip to State with an opportunity to win a record 12th championship.
Although the 12-2 Cubs are well-aware of their opponent's gaudy history, which includes outscoring its opponents 67-6 over the last two weeks, they also know what they're capable of under pressure. They'll kickoff Saturday morning at 10 am with a 1st place trophy up for grabs.
