Whippets Crash Clyde 28-14 Into Regional Final
SHELBY --The Shelby Whippets saw their undefeated season come crashing to an end in the Division 4 Region 14 Championship where Van Wert QB Owen Treece was near-perfect throwing for five first-half touchdowns in a 49-7 Cougars victory.
Treece went 14-of-15 passing for 228 yards as #5 Van Wert (9-1) averaged over 10 yards per play in their first-half barrage which averaged less than two minutes per scoring drive. The 2nd-seeded Whippets (9-1) managed just 150 yards of total offense with senior standout Owen Fisher accumulating 41 yards before leaving the game in the second quarter with a serious knee injury.
The Cougars advance to next Saturday’s Division 4 State Semifinal where they will face Cincinnati Wyoming at a stadium to be announced by the OHSAA.
