Ontario Holds Off Shelby 11-10 In Extras
SHELBY --- The Ontario Warriors kicked off the MOAC portion of its 2021 campaign holding off a furious Shelby Whippets comeback 11-10 in 8 innings.
The Warriors (2-0, 1-0 MOAC) used a five run fifth inning to build a 7-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings, but the Whippets (3-1, 0-1 MOAC) started chipping away cutting its deficit to 7-3 after four.
Ontario plated 3 more runs in the top of the fifth making it 10-3, but again the Whippets continued chipping away with a 6-run chunk in the bottom of the fifth making it 10-9.
They then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and had the winning run on third with one out, but couldn't get him across forcing extra innings.
The eighth inning would have to wait 21 hours, however, as darkness suspended play and when it resumed the Warriors struck quick taking an 11-10 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Shelby then got its first two runners on base, but Ontario was able to get a double play and a groundout to finish the game.
