Lucas Defense clamps South Central,
Advance To District Final 34-26
WILLARD -- South Central and Lucas met with a spot in the D4 Willard District final on the line where the Cubs would prevail 34-26, advancing to defend their championship.
It was a defensive battle with both clubs struggling to find their range, though Ethan Sauder would knock down a mid-range shot to score his 1,000th point during his illustrious Lucas career. The top-seeded Trojans could manage just six points by the halftime break as they fell behind 12-6 before getting hot in the third.
As the 2nd half started, South Central started 3-4 from behind the arc, but the Cubs would sustain the Trojans wave in the third quarter and hold a 20-19 advantage to begin the final frame. South Central struggled to get over the hump as the Cubs would come to life following a slow third quarter.
Lucas dominated at the free-throw line as they went 17-27 and did just enough to put away the Trojans as Ethan "Goose" Wallace knocked down two clutch free throws to ice away South Central. Ethan Sauder would also knock down a few freebies at the charity stripe and eventually put the Trojans away.
Your State Farm Agent Mark Lamoreaux player of the game was Wallace who scored 6 points but 2 of those were the crucial free throw who would eventually punch the Cubs ticket to the District Final vs St Paul.
