Centerburg Drops Lions 68-47,
Advance To Sectional Final
CENTERBURG --- A huge run by Centerburg to close the second quarter ran into the third period of the Division III Sectional Semifinals where the Trojans knocked off Columbus International 68-47.
The #22 Lions hung tough during the first quarter and much of the second as freshman post K.J. Jones scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the opening half. Eighth-seeded Centerburg (16-3) led 18-17 after one, and were locked up in a tight battle until Levi Houk drilled a 3-pointer to beat the halftime horn, giving the Trojans a 39-31 advantage.
The momentum continued to build for the Burg in the third where they outscored Columbus International
18-4 for a comfortable 57-35 lead heading into the final frame. Coach John Marhefka would later unload his bench in the fourth with the game out of reach as his Trojans punched their ticket to the Sectional Finals where they will take on N#4 North Union.
Carter Jones led Centerburg with a 19 point double-double, but sophomore Colton Martin earned Player of the Game honors for bringing a high motor off the bench, finishing with 13 points.
