#5 ONTARIO vs #6 LEXINGTON
Warriors Take Out Lex For Sectional Crown
One of the most heated rivalries in North Central Ohio decided the Division II Bucyrus Sectional Championship where Ontario dispatched Richland County neighbor Lexington 58-49.
The game's first half was competitive throughout with the #6 Minutemen building a slight 11-9 edge in the opening quarter before the Warriors closed the half with some momentum to seize a 24-21 halftime lead.
Fifth-seeded Ontario's (17-6) offensive consistency continued into the third, completing a 15-2 run into the middle of the frame. Lexington (13-10) quickly responded with a scoring spree of their own, closing the gap to 37-32 heading into the fourth.
Senior guard Shaquan Coburn was brilliant for the Warriors, delivering key shots and converting all eight of his free-throw attempts to help keep Ontario out in front. Led by Dylan Spears who splashed six 3-pointers, the Minutemen would find themselves down just four points with less than a minute to play before the Warriors slammed the door from the charity stripe.
Coburn finished with a game-high 27 pts to go along with 5 rebounds as Griffin Shaver added 10 pts, 5 rebs & 5 assists to pace Ontario offensively. Spears poured in 21 pts, followed by Kaydan Berry with 10 & 7 rebs.
The Warriors now advance to face #1 Upper Sandusky (22-1) in the Mansfield District Semifinals.
