Shelby Walks Off Clear Fork 8-7 For Share Of MOAC Crown
SHELBY --- The Shelby Whippets scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off Clear Fork 8-7 to secure a share of the MOAC championship.
Clear Fork (9-13) jumped on top in the top of the first on RBI by Kaleb Hollar and Brock Talbott to make it 2-0.
The Whippets (20-2) started to chip away in the bottom on an RBI double by Marshall Shepherd. They then tied things up in the third on a RBI single by Shepherd. Shelby then seemed to break the game open in the fifth when Jeremy Holloway hit a bases-clearing two-out double and then scored on a Alex Bruskotter RBI double to make it 6-2.
The Colts, however, refused to go away loading the bases with one out in the seventh and proceeded to tie the game on a balk, hit by pitch, fielders choice, and single. Ben Blubaugh then gave Clear Fork the 7-6 lead on an RBI single.
The Whippets bounced back in the bottom of the seventh as Luke Shepherd walked to start the inning. Pinch-runner Tanner Hartz then advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single by Logan Green and scored on another wild pitch to tie the game. Green then advance to third on a Holloway fly out to centerfield and scored the winning run on Bruskotter's walk-off RBI single.
The win secures at least a share of the MOAC championship for the Whippets and could secure the conference outright if Ontario either loses to Pleasant on Thursday or to Clear Fork on Saturday morning.
