Shelby senior distance runner didn't just win the Division II cross country state championship, he set a new standard in the process.

 

The Whippets star broke the state record with a new milestone of 15:05.1, a full 8.3 seconds better than the nearest competition. He averaged a blistering 4:51 per mile on his way to victory, adding hardware to his growing collection of state championship hardware.

 

Brown earned state titles in the mile and two mile at last years state track meet, and finished runner-up to Lexington's Kyle Johnston in XC a season ago.

 

"A state title is a big thing", Brown said. "Not many people get this so to have this many people here to support you is a big deal."
