#2 MADISON vs  CHAGRIN FALLS

Bechtel Sends Madison To State Championship

With OT Goal To Beat Tigers 1-0

Ashleigh Bechtel was told by assistant coach Ron Andrews that she would score a "big goal" in Madison's Division II State Semifinal match against Chagrin Falls at Pat Catan Stadium in Strongsville, and he was right. Bechtel sent the Lady Rams to the program's first-ever State Championship with a sudden-death goal to break a scoreless tie in overtime, giving Madison a 1-0 win over the Tigers.

The victory provided some redemption for a Lady Rams team that had lost on the same field just two years ago 1-0 to Lake Catholic with a late goal ending their season and were upset by Bay by a score of 1-0 in last year's Regional Semifinals.

Chagrin Falls (18-3-1) controlled the action for the beginning part of the match, but failed to capitalize on their best opportunity in the opening minutes as the Madison defense allowed few Tigers scoring chances to rest of the way. All-American Taylor Huff generated a host of offensive opportunities for Madison in both halves, but had her best shot ricochet off the crossbar and bounce into the hands of the keeper.

After regulation finishes without a goal, the Lady Rams won the coin toss and coach Zac Huff elected to defend the far end of the field because he wanted to "celebrate a game-winning goal in front of our bench and our stands so I didn't have to run as far," which Huff did to be a part of the doggy-pile in front of the net following Bechtel's goal less than 5-minutes into the extra session.

At 18-1-4, #2 Madison now advances to face #1 Kettering Alter (20-1-1) at Mapre Stadium in Columbus for the Division II State Championship on Saturday at 1 pm.
