ASHLAND -- Ashland quarterback Declan Rohr fired four touchdown passes and added a scoring run to lead the Arrows to a 35-22 victory over Mansfield Senior on Friday night at Community Stadium.
This verdict sends the second-seeded Arrows (6-1 overall) into the next round of the Division III, Region 10 playoffs. The spoils include coach Sean Seder's team hosting next Friday night's game against 7th-seeded Norwalk. The Truckers (4-3) beat 10th-seeded Copley 17-10.
This marked the second time Ashland topped the Tygers this year. The Arrows earned a 13-6 victory on Sept. 18.
This clash wasn't nearly as close with Rohr roaring throughout.
The Arrows' senior got his team rolling on a 41-yard TD pass to Ethan Hartley with 51 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The PAT gave Ashland a 7-0 lead.
Mansfield Senior responded when freshman quarterback Duke Reese tossed a 5-yard scoring pass to Myles Bradley and the point after tied the score with 8:00 remaining in the half.
But Seder's squad then took control with a flurry of touchdowns.
Rohr's 14-yard TD run made it 14-7, and then he found Landon McFrederick with a 28-yard touchdown connection to push the margin to 21-7 at the half.
Rohr found McFrederick again on a 4-yard scoring strike and added a 23-yard TD aerial to Hartley to goose the advantage to 35-7 with 2:02 remaining in the third quarter.
The Tygers struck back when Reese hooked up with Aveon Grose on a 21-yard pass to cut it to 35-14 heading to the fourth period.
Amajeon Robertson tackled Rohr in the end zone for a safety with 4:24 showing. That set up a short field on the ensuing drive and the Tygers took advantage. Bradley caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Reese to climb within 35-22 for the final score.
The Arrows did most of their damage in the air. Rohr hit 15-of-23 passes for 238 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. Hartley caught five passes for 132 yards and a pair of scores. He also had 39 yards rushing.
Mansfield Senior had more total yardage, 305 to 285.
Reese hit on 21-of-42 passes for 274 yards and three scores. Bradley had seven catches for 100 yards and a pair of TDs.
Mansfield Senior drops to 3-5 on the season.
